From The Beginning Of The Play, I Had Guessed That The

From the beginning of the play, I had guessed that the hero would’ve been Othello. Perhaps it was the name, the way he had spoken about his wife Desdemona, or the fact his name was the name of the play but regardless, he was identifiably the hero to me from the start. Luckily for us, every great story a hero must have a villain. However, the villain in this story is unique from your typical villain, he does things behind the scenes to make him appear trustworthy. Iago creates an evil, yet fiercely intelligent depiction of a sociopath personality. A character who is intelligent enough to use others to get the things he wants to happen. He is intelligent enough to figure out the vulnerable aspects of the other characters. With this†¦show more content†¦What made these guys easy targets for Iago was that they had revealed their weaknesses directly to Iago (1).† It`s this manipulative intelligence that Iago possesses which makes him so evil to me. A quote tha t I feel shows a case of Iago being very manipulative is found in the end of Act 1 Scene 3. I think this scene is a great depiction of Iago using his intelligence of word use to manipulate one of the characters. Iago manipulates Roderigo into trusting him, thus, showing Iago he can take advantage by pretending to help â€Å"I could never better stead thee than now (P.546).† This shows Roderigo that Iago cares about his well being and doesn’t want him committing suicide or â€Å"drowning†. Instead, Iago is using his manipulative traits to convince Roderigo to do some of his dirty work for him. Another great section of the play that depicts Iago twisting things that play into in his favor is found in Act 3 Scene 3. Iago shows me he is a master of manipulation, picking out the one true vulnerability of Othello, which is his marriage. A quote that confirms my observation is as follows: â€Å"She did deceive her father, marrying you, and when she seemed to shake and fear your looks, she loved them most (P.578).† This quote stood out to me as a perfect example of Iago planting an evil seed into a characters head.
